A Day in My Life

I thank you guys for encouraging me last time. No worries, I'm trying to be still and have faith so I really hope I will be okay. Sorry, I didn't reply to all of you who emailed me and left your nice comments in my blog last time because of my quiet busy days. I'll try to have time to reply to you guys, wait patiently. My tummy seems okay. Past few days, I was working on my unfinished personal drawing when I thought about my personal problems. I sighed deeply. Then my mama visited me and spent time with me. Of course, I was very happy to see her again. We talked to each other, shared simple jokes with each other and took newest webcam photos of us. Hehehe yes, my mama asked me to take more pics, we were so funny and silly. At least, she cheered me up. Awwwwww.. meow.

Here's my submission, "A Day in my Life" for the Paper Quilt Project by Dawn. I must admit that I rarely do art collages but I was way too excited to participate this. I personally chose five paper scraps and started creating it. Ta-da, I finished it for one day. Dawn, thank you very much for inviting me to participate in this marvelous project, it was so fun, enjoyable and pleasure. Next time, I should keep and save any papers for making more art collages. (*Mall grins.*) Hope you guys like it.

It's 3.5" X 5", Acrylics + Coloured Pencils + Pen + Collage on Bristol canvas paper. I explain to you guys this simple description of this art collage: "I seek out my cats... Looking for them, checking on them, wanting to play with them... Every hour, every minute, every second of the day... Never ending fun and excitement." That girl character is me (I know, she looks like a boy... 'coz of my short hair, you know...)

This dedication is for my sister's female persian cat Abu. It was her May birthday. Err, I can't remember her exact birthday date. However, she passed away past few years ago. I can describe Abu that she was playful, naughty, intelligent, cheerful and sometimes lazy. You know, sometimes I paint, sketch and draw artworks of what I dream about Abu. As a matter of fact, I created my cat character Abu to be Babu's male partner in 2005. Why male? Because my sister and I thought Abu looked like a 100% male cat, aye? I took this old photo of Abu in the garden... Eeep, Abu stared at me seriously but she looked wonderfully beautiful. I never forget Abu.

Okay, I have to go to the town now.

Andi's World

Sigh, I'm in a very bad mood nowadays. My stupid tummy is painful, this makes me sick. I want my body to stop shaking right now. I'm scared if I could fall unsteadily into the darkest path? I don't know. Argh, I'm not a happy girl anymore. Hmmm oops sorry, I don't want you all to see me sad and depressed, so don't worry about me.

I'll better post my personal bw drawings next time. Let me show you guys my recent coloured art commission, Andi's World. I worked on it for my client Rene Enriquez. This theme is about family adventure (9" x 12.5", acrylics + coloured pencils on Arches paper). Click this photo to full view.

I made these three characters: Rene, his beautiful wife Jolana and his adorable cheerful daughter Andi. Those curious rabbits are very surprised and astonished how Andi makes those magical glowing orbs with her wand. Then she makes her blessed parents happy and smile. Awww. Well, I really enjoyed doing this art commission. Rene, I thank you for everything. You guys made my day. Saludo, maraming salamat po!

I must admit that I seriously wish I could live in a magical dreamland, like this artwork. I wanted to be happy forever. However, my dreams were broken. When will I find a true happiness and peace? (*Mall frowns and is tired of crying and weeping...*) I need my depressed mind and heart to be calm right now.

Okay, I'll post my next coloured art collage, A Day in My Life for the Paper Quilt Project soon. If anyone wants to commission me, please email me. Bye.

Unconsciousness

I give you the reasons why I fainted many times before:
  • Bullies (I was mocked, attacked and hated by bad kids thru my childhood years 'coz of my hearing deficiency, so I became very hurt before I fainted.)
  • Accidents (falling/slipping into the stairs & grounds, hitting on the hard wood/wall, etc.)
  • Strenuous physical exercise (martial arts, running, basketball, hiking, more.)
  • Health problems (especially my poor belly)
  • Lack of confidence
  • Lack of sleep
  • Nervousness
  • Depression
  • Stress
  • Fear
Hmm, I'm not sure if I can add more reasons because I'm forgetful. Scars? Yep, yep, by fainting, I got few scars on my eyebrow, hands, knees, feet, back, here, here, here, etc. (*Babu and his kitten Abu poke at Mall's ass*.) I know, I'm not flawless but eh so what? Look at this photo of me (Oh that's my real freckles anyway... err, no make-up. I'm a 100% Filipino girl. My grandmother and mama got few freckles too).

Do you see a small scar on my left eyebrow? Because I hit the wooden chair by accident at the all-girls highschool in 1996. After this, my hyperactive talkative classmate Wendell screamed at me, "May Ann! Are you okay??!! Look at your eyebrow!" I said, "Wendell? Hmm? Why........ blood?" I felt dizzy a little bit and I touched my eyebrow with flowing blood. Then I was unconscious. My classmates and teacher brought me to the small clinic and called my parents. They put me in my mama's car and she hurriedly drove me from school to the hospital (wow, she's a fast driver... I mean, racer!). Luckily, my dad stitched it up 'coz he's an ophthalmologist. All I can say is I should be very, very careful. Hmm, I think I'm a clumpsy girl. Here's my work in progress on "Unconsciousness". I loved to listen to the song "Svenfn-G-Englar" (Sleepwalkers) by Sigur Ros when I worked on this drawing.

I would like to explain this short description: a little brunette girl falls into the deep dark water when she gets unconscious. Her pale body becomes very calm but it doesn't move. Those soft seaweeds, tiny fishes and bubbles seem very confused and dangerous, which means, she feels very dizzy. Possibly, sharp seaweeds can sometimes cut her skin gently, just like my scars. About the kind big fishes, they notice and help her quickly, it's like, "Hey let's help her!" (haha, don't think that they eat her!) These fishes remind me of my kind family, relatives and friends in real life who helped and carried me to the hospital, small clinics and others. I thank God and my family and friends for saving me from all dangers.

Whew, I finished my newest art commission for Rene Enriquez yesterday. I really enjoyed doing more glowing elements / details. Hope he like it.
I have to work now... Hmm wait, I need to eat a slice of my favorite fruit: PAKWAN!!! (WATERMELON!!!) Ciao!

Busy May + Featured Artist: Gerry Alanguilan

Oh hahahaha, my poor dearest characters Babu and his kitten Abu... Nyahahaha... Ok trust me, I'm still a silly funny girl. Wow, the weather is very hot here, it makes me feel dizzy. I keep sweating alot when I'm busy with my art projects, running errands, watering the plants, etc.

I loved doing this personal comic. I was so inspired by my long favorite comic artist Gerry Alanguilan. I'm a long fan of Gerry. As a matter of fact, my brother Jeremy, who loved comics, gave me Gerry's famous comic book, "Wasted" when I was a high school girl. Seriously. His Wasted comics are way too incredible and awesome. When I grew up, it was so hard to find Gerry's comics here in my province. In June 2006, I was surprised that I have found Gerry on deviantART thru browsing. I was super thrilled, like I was a paranoid talkative girl, "NGARRK!!! NGARRKKK!!! Gerry is here??? is he real? Oh oh my gosh! He's my favorite comic artist!! Now I'm going to talk to him! BWAHAHAHAHAHARHARHAR! Oh oh, how many years I didn't see his awesome comics???? It's so long!" Okay. Then, Gerry found my commissioned work on a cover of Wickermoss’s debut CD in the music shop and bought it after my art made him stop and look. Hehehehe! Gerry sent his note to me that he is also a big fan of me! I was super thrilled again and I screamed, "OH MY GOSH! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!! NOOO WWAAAYYYY!!!". Luckily, Kuya Gerry became my friend! Nope, I haven't met him in person yet. I was there in National Book Award ceremony where my first book got a trophy, but surprisingly, I didn't know that Gerry was there too! I would like to feature his great artworks here. I'm in awe with his great style.

Please visit Gerry's website, deviantART page and blog. He's a bad ass comic artist + writer and architect. He's a good funny hilarious talented talkative honest cool person. I really enjoy reading his blogs about his life, his blessed wife Iljn, relatives and friends, updated comics, etc. regularly. You know what, I can't believe that he's a old blogger since 1997! I recommend you guys, don't forget to buy the copies of his recent comic, Elmer. It's totally awesome and hilarious, I would say loudly, "Two thumbs up!" Many people/fans love this. Surprisingly, Neil Gaiman wrote his super special postcard to Gerry about Elmer. No joke. Thank you very much for featuring me in your blog, Kuya Gerry. I salute to you! Astig ka!

Today is May. Ah, that's my name! Do you know why my dad named me "May Ann"? Because he idolized Dr. May Ann before. I seriously wanted to become a doctor when I was a kid! Honestly, my mama really wanted my name "Pauline". Hmmm, Pauline Licudine? Err, it sounds funny. Anyway, I think April 2007 is my favorite month. Because... well, it really made me very happy. Good news, the results (look at this screenshot) of Awstats report told me that my online art website was hit by 8,072 unique visitors from around the world last April! This made me speechless. Thank you again, thank you... I can't thank you all enough. Let me send my hugs to all of you! I won't forget this wonderful moment. I'm so proud to be Pinoy. (*Mall smiles widely.*)

Wow, I'm talkative now. Okay, I'm working on my unfinished art commission for Rene Enriquez. Next post: my personal drawing, "Unconsciousness". See you soon.
