Dedication for Maurice Sendak

Today I dedicated this quick fan art for Maurice Sendak, who is one of my biggest influences. Hehehe, I borrowed Max's costume to dress Babu up so he danced with a wild monster and Abu. This medium I used is Mongol jumbo pencil and coupon bond. Heck yeah, I love MONGOL pencils at all times!!!

Next time, I'll make another dedication for
Edward Gorey (of course, another influence....) I was done painting my commission for Future Human today. Hope my client will like it soon. Wow... I think I will be busy this April.

Happy Happy Tuesday! See you guys!

My Wishlist

Whew... I'm taking a break from my recent commission work. How are you guys doing? I'm just resting and looking at those wonderful stuff in Etsy. In 2007, I saw my very trusted close friend Ninke's blog about her Etsy shop (Pepperberry Studios). I am falling in love with her silver rings. So I visited her Etsy shop and whoa, there were a lot of wonderful things from great sellers. Hehehe, I think Ninke made me hooked up with Etsy. Tee hee! *hugs*

My interests are forest, nature, boyish colors (green, brown, blue, gray, black, violet), tigers, Japanese masks, beanies, boxers, stripes, mushrooms, unique things, adventurous stuff... Now, I'm writing my wishlist down here.

I like Ninke's super adorable ring. I feel like I live this little home. "Home is where the heart is..." she says. Awww!

The whimsical figurines of Andy's Rascals are absolutely sweet!

Oh my gosh, I love these cool wallets from Brave Moonman.

Hmmm, this earthy wallet from Rosy Bird is so fresh like a Mother Earth.

I would love to wear these Japanese masks by Merimask. I like to scare everyone. Boo!

Oh man... When will I wear these unique bracelets from The Gooseflesh Boutique??? Honestly, I'm a beach lover. I'm so lucky to live my house near a peaceful beach here.

Need to hug a real hard tree? Why don't you try these green man pillows by Mimi Kirchner... Hmm so soft and fresh... Oh mama mia...

If I could wear these colorful bracelets of Kjoo, I miss my childhood memories. Nostalgic!

Stripes? Check. Beanie? Check. Poncho? Check. Unique style? Check, of course. Aye aye, This complete eco-friendly hoodie poncho is made by Helen Hats. Incredible!

Wanna be a Indiana Jones Girl? Hiking Woman? Crocodile Hunter? I should be... I should wear this hot leather bag by Pursecutions so I could put my little knife, bombs, tiny weapons, James Bond's gadgets, etc. in it for my self-defense, eh?

Vintage tape measures? I don't know why I love these. Tape owl plushie by Strawberries and Creams. Measuring Tape Multi-Color Pouch by Pieces of Kandee.

I wanna cuddle these forest creature by Little Black Forest.

Cold feet? Awww, wear these colorful felt socks by Paw Felts.

Tired of ordinary costumes? Better to wear this Unordinary one.

I wish I could buy these cool bags for putting my art materials (or any objects) in them. Massive Messenger Bag by Camel Bags. Small Leather Artist Bag by Callie Co.

Whew... When I have money, I'd love to buy them all!!! I better sleep now! I'll make my future post about my wishlist part two next time! I enjoy seeking these wonderful stuff. Just like, I love to seek Asian artists as a new contributor for Startdrawing.org. Goodnight and sweetdreams! Enjoy visiting Etsy!

P.S. Thank you very much for everything, Ninke (Kerstin). You're my big inspiration!

P.P.S. Zzzzzz....zz.zz....z........z.....

Aya's Depression

Oh! I forgot to post my old piece, "Aya's Depression". I used acrylics, coloured pencils and lead pencil on wood. I must admit that I did this during my past depression last year. Sorry guys, it's not for sale. I was inspired by Francisco Goya's Black Paintings. Indeed, he was quite enigmatic and unusual, aye? Nope nope, I'm not interested in death and macabre but I just like Goya's black style. Hmm, I love this depressed lil' character girl, I should cheer her up, hehehe!

Sneak peek:
My recent work in progress, "Future Human" for front and back music album cover. I can't wait to make another back inlay!!! I'll need to finish this before making new paintings for my two clients! I know, I'm so busy... See you in April! Kudos!

My boring funny times + Noma Concours + Startdrawing.org

I was just bored during Holy Week so I was waiting for my mama and my younger sister Erica, who went to the grocery store. I tried to play with my cellphone camera, hehehe. So silly, dorky and funny...

Again, I took these cellphone pictures of me and Erica.

Hooray, Holy Week was over. It's time to paint my art commissions and other projects for me!

Attention, illustrators! ACCU is now inviting entries for 16th Noma Concours for Picture Illustration Book! The Noma Concours aims at encouraging illustrators in Asia and the Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, and the Arab States, to create attractive, high quality art work, by providing them with an opportunity to introduce their works widely, thereby contributing to the general improvement of the quality of picture book illustrations for children. Entrants should be nationals of Unesco Member States in the regions mentioned above. Illustrations for books published in Europe, North America, Australia, Japan or New Zealand are not accepted.

Join!! Good luck, my fellow illustrators! I never forget that I won the Encouragement Prize in 14th Noma Concours before. Sigh, I can't join this annual competition now because I'm still busy in making art projects. But I'll try. If not, I'll possibly join the 17th Noma Concours in 2010.

What else... Oh! I forgot to tell you guys. I'm now a new contributor of Startdrawing.org The Asia Portal Drawing. And please meet these new great contributors too. Please enjoy visiting Startdrawing.org! I'll be ready to feature Asian artists and their works soon. I'm quite happy! Thank you very much, Josef Lee!

Aye, I have to sleep now. I should finish my art projects. Magandang gabi sa inyong lahat! (Good evening to everybody!)

Kaonashi with Babu and Abu

Hehehehehe.. well, it was just fun to make a fan art when I was sick in January 2008. Kaonashi (No Face from Spirited Away) is one of my favorite cartoon characters by Hayao Miyazaki. No Face is quite adorable, sweet and mysterious, isn't he? I'm sure he will devour me promptly, haha! He's a truly evil creature.

Anyway, I wanna make a full pencil comic about something right now... But I'll save it for later because I should finish my new commission about sci-fi theme first. It's for the
Future Human, music album cover from Serbia. Here's my rough sketch (character design/study).. ah yes, sting ray starship... oh man, it looks like my sketch has a kind of tomboyish feeling to it, haha. I know, this is my new challenge.

Honestly, I wanted to learn how to draw airplanes, starships, etc., just like Miyazaki's mechanical drawings. When I have time, I would love to practice and learn. Oh, I made another free quick sketch of a dragonfly tattoo for my trusted wonderful friend Susana. She wanted the dragonfly tattoo of Heath Ledger. He was her biggest crush and idol. Aww. I can't wait to see her real tattoo for her birthday soon. Her twin sister Patricia should have one too. hehehe! Good luck, my lovely twin friends, don't be afraid of those deadly needles, nyahahaha!

You know what, I would like to share my short story with you guys about my past job (textile designer) in 2003. I made 15-70 designs per day for the pillow cases, napkins, curtains, placemats, table covers, etc. Then I also traced, colored with colored pencils and perforated papers. I drew insects, flowers, animals, patterns, elements, more.. then I chose and fixed the best suitable color palettes of many threads for embroidering designs. Of course, my boss requested me to change and fix them many times. It was so hard and frustrating but I really enjoyed learning many good things. It was so good to develop my art skills. Sorry guys, they kept hundreds of my artworks/sketches in their company, hu hu hu, seriously. I worked as a designer for 6 months, then I resigned it because of the low earnings. They already missed me... awww. I took these few crappy photos of my old works, take a look. Dang, I miss my old works, hu hu. The materials were coupon bonds, colored pencils, tracing papers, pens, colored pens, rulers, perforating machine, reference books, typography books, etc.

Hehehehe, I seem talkative here. Okay, wish me luck, I'm going to paint the final illustration for the Future Human soon. Goodnight and sweet dreams! *Mall falls asleep and floats away with Nemo into Slumberland....*

Bear and Bird Commission + My Bday

My lovely friend Amanda (owner of Bear + Bird Boutique and Gallery) commissioned me to make a painting: bear, bird and girl. I made two rough sketches, Amanda asked me to combine them (she liked the trees, mushrooms and bear of the second sketch and the girl and birds from the first one.)

The medium is acrylics + coloured pencils on wood, 7" x 10". I really enjoyed doing this. I'm very happy that Amanda already liked it, hooray! Take a look at these details and full scanned image.

Thanks for everything, Amanda! By the way, do you know this little chubby girl, who blew those candles on a pink cake? That's me (old photo). Today is my birthday. I'm now 27 years old. I'm grown up! Happy Birthday to me! *winks*

Anyway, I'm going to my mama's apartment tonight after celebrating my dinner birthday party. I'll take care of her 'coz she got flu. I should get better soon, I got anemia and upset stomachache!!!

Good night and sweet dreams!
